Milkweed is considered to be a poisonous plant for it contains toxins that makes monarch butterflies who feed solely on them unpalatable to most prey. the amazing plant world has again surprised scientists who have found the plant to have hypoallergenic fibers that have long been used for pillows as filling. The seeds contain unsaturated oils that contains chemicals and compounds that may hold the key to better sunscreens for tomorrow having both uses in moisturizers, sunscreens and conditioners. Oil extracted form the seeds have been found to contain known anti-UV agents such as tocopherols which protects and nourishes the skin.
Products that contain the said unsaturated fats also make good biodegradable products, lessening the risk of harmful chemicals washing into waters polluting them and killing off plant and marine life. Studies into the major components of the lowly milkweed are still undergoing but initial results are very promising, for the next generation of sunscreens and skin care products.
