Drug-Resistant Staphylococcus Infections

drugresiststaphDoctors are finding a very alarming trend that has been going on for quite sometime, injuries to the skin that get infected are now found to be healing not only longer but worse, are becoming host to once rare forms of staph infections. Called MSRA, these forms of infections used to be common in athletes or with the condition known as athlete’s foot, with bacteria commonly found in the infected skin and within in-grown toe nails. Today however, they are being found more and more commonly in regular scrapes and wounds that used to be easy to treat with common antibiotics so people with wounds that take longer to heal than normal should get them checked so they are eliminated and a new regimen of antibiotics could be prescribed.
This is a common occurrence in today’s world where common antibiotics and medication are always within reach at the local pharmacy. Often mis-used and abused, these antibiotics that used to be so effective are rendered useless due to evolving resistance to the drugs necessitating more potent and more expensive treatments. People should heed prescriptions and keep in touch with their physicians according to their scheduled visits to assess the effectivity of their treatment regimen. Even minor scrapes and scratches that are taking longer than normal to heal should be checked to rule out any drug-resistant infections and if they are found, they can be treated properly.
