Sunscreen New Formulas from Tested Brands

uvrays.jpgDo you know that sunscreen comes in two varieties when it come to the protection they offer your skin? I didn’t, and as it turns out there are products that protect you from UVA or Ultraviolet Alpha rays (which was previously the most widely accepted type of the sun’s rays known more commonly as Ultraviolet light). Most people like me don’t know that there is also a need for protection from UVB or Ultraviolet Beta rays which can also cause skin damage and in severe cases even cause skin cancer. So when choosing which type to purchase at the drug store or the supermarket, skin care experts recommend getting ones that are labeled to give broad spectrum protection so all the bases are covered.

Visit your skin specialist for pointers

When we have irritating problems such as skin concerns, chances are we will make appointments with our skin specialist for diagnosis and advice. This can be the best option while others would want to rely on the untested creams and lotions to apply to avoid time out from their daily chores.

A skin specialist can help you in more ways than one. They can recommend treatment or even place you in situations to answer the problems at hand. For all intents and purposes, skin care is something serious if you are quite particular about your beauty. Do not gamble. Seek the specialist for better advice.

Drug-Resistant Staphylococcus Infections

drugresiststaphDoctors are finding a very alarming trend that has been going on for quite sometime, injuries to the skin that get infected are now found to be healing not only longer but worse, are becoming host to once rare forms of staph infections. Called MSRA, these forms of infections used to be common in athletes or with the condition known as athlete’s foot, with bacteria commonly found in the infected skin and within in-grown toe nails. Today however, they are being found more and more commonly in regular scrapes and wounds that used to be easy to treat with common antibiotics so people with wounds that take longer to heal than normal should get them checked so they are eliminated and a new regimen of antibiotics could be prescribed. Stress Exaggerates Skin Diseases

stressStress has been shown to cause many a health issues that may lessen the quality of life. A link that establishes stress as a major cause of skin irritation though still under debate shows the great power the brain has over the parts of the human body. This overreaction results in rashes or itchy sores, that if compounded by skin diseases like psoriasis and dermatitis makes it worse. The direct link of the human brain to the skin is a very important one for the skin is the first defense of our body against invading germs and bacteria. This reaction by the human immune system though natural and automatic has the ability to react wrongly to stress leading to skin disorders without any underlying cause. Further study hopes to determine why the immune system attacks itself due to a mental condition and the mechanism that causes the system to go haywire.

Skin care myths busted!

We people nowadays are wiser about seeing straight through a bad pick-up line. But when it comes to beauty, there are still some falsehoods that we take seriously. When after all, it was just a big joke. So don’t be stupid and get ready to wise up. This is one of the skin care myth that we are use to:

The myth: Using more of a product will make it take effect faster. The truth is that using handfuls of product would not do your any favors. Slathering more of a product to your body doesn’t result in more immediate result. Applying to much may cause skin irritations or allergic reaction, since some beauty products contain active ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, and benzoyl peroxide. Watch out if you’re using something that contains these. By just, applying a thin layer of it is enough to cover the area you’re treating. If you’re using a retinol cream. For example, a pea-sized dab will do the trick.

A warning about lip gloss

If you happen to be using lip gloss, you better think twice since it may lead to cancer as far as this latest report shows.

“These lip glosses can make more of the light rays penetrate directly through the skin instead of getting reflected off of the skin’s surface,” says Dr. Christine Brown, a dermatologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. (You’re covered, however, if you wear lip gloss with SPF.)

We cannot help but avoid using lip gloss since we occasionally suffer from our lips drying up. While it has been traditional to turn to lip gloss to resolve the problem, apparently this whole problem of having to consider the other factors such as the origin of the product remains.

Sunscree will not hurt

We all know that sunscreens or sunblock lotions are normally used when we go to the beach. Considering however that we have weird weather and the sun rays ever so harmful, applying these solutions to our skin each time we go out of the house. While it is better to go out protected, it remains that we need protection even in the simplest way.

Don’t be annoyed by using these sunscreen lotions. They are used to help safeguard you as a whole. We see people ignoring them and wearing long sleeved clothes. But once they get through that, chances are you will turn back to them anyway.

Health Warnings and Advisories – Doing Little

uvwarning.jpgPeople are some of the most stubborn living beings on earth for statistics show that almost 30% of all adults still go outdoors without using ample sunscreen in spite of well publicized warnings of the damage skin and the resulting skin cancer can cause due to over exposure to the sun. About 1.5 million new cases are diagnosed each year and a few thousand will result in death from skin cancer alone. Even repetitive warnings are not heeded by adults and also children who need more protection for their skin. Research is showing that severe sunburn in childhood can increase the likelihood of contracting skin melanomas and the other forms of skin cancer in adult life. So heed those ads and warnings, they are in fact for your safety and health.

Have Sunscreen on – Can stay longer under the sun

uvbrays.jpgNope, experts say that the protective effects of sunscreen are having a false sense of security for people who do use them making them think they can stay longer under the sun with it. People have long been advised to avoid direct exposure to the sun’s harmful rays between 10am and 4pm when the sun is high in the sky and obstacles provide little protection if none at all. Do not wear dark colored clothes for they absorb more of the suns rays like getting slowly roasted in your own clothes. Use light colored and if possible sun protective gear (clothes, wide brimmed caps and hats) whenever possible. Use sunscreen for everyday activities such as your daily jog around the block when the sun is out and bright. Research also shows that sunscreen is best applied in a thick consistent manner (like buttering toast) and should not be rubbed into the skin as previously used. This lessens their effectivity to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays increasing the risk of contracting skin cancer.
