Winter Skin Protection

winter.jpgWinter is not only cold but harsh and brutal to your skin. Add up wind, cold weather and UV rays that reflects off the white snow back onto your face it is quite a challenge to maintain the glow of your skin in the winter months. Sun block on most unprotected parts of your body (which should be a small area for you are likely to be a bundle of warm clothing) ensure that the suns rays that do get through are not causing any damage. A hot shower might be appealing but take them for short periods only for they tend to take away the natural oils and lipids from the skins surface leaving it dry as bone. See the dermatologist at once if dry skin, irritation and other skin problems arise to prevent it from spreading and to alleviate the discomfort.

Stress Exaggerates Skin Diseases

stressStress has been shown to cause many a health issues that may lessen the quality of life. A link that establishes stress as a major cause of skin irritation though still under debate shows the great power the brain has over the parts of the human body. This overreaction results in rashes or itchy sores, that if compounded by skin diseases like psoriasis and dermatitis makes it worse. The direct link of the human brain to the skin is a very important one for the skin is the first defense of our body against invading germs and bacteria. This reaction by the human immune system though natural and automatic has the ability to react wrongly to stress leading to skin disorders without any underlying cause. Further study hopes to determine why the immune system attacks itself due to a mental condition and the mechanism that causes the system to go haywire.

More on Winter Skin Protection

winter1.jpgIf one loves to ski, then it is not uncommon for you to get sunburn though with some precautions the pain and discomfort of the sport can be minimized leaving you with healthier skin. Take regular breaks indoors to minimize the time exposed to the suns UV rays, this can prevent severe sunburn and other problems associated with it. Limit time spent in full sunlight between 10am and 4pm which is when the sun is directly overhead meaning more UV rays. Wear dark colored clothing and long sleeved ones if possible to lower the amount of skin that is exposed to the sun. Use sunscreen and follow the application timeframe to maximize effectivity and choose broad spectrum sunscreen for maximum protection

Your Skin : Your First Defense

skinc1.jpgThe skin functions like a porous plastic bag that keeps all the vital fluids in and waste products like excess salts and sweat out. It also acts as the blood cooling system for it has many blood vessels and capillaries running through it that when you exert yourself and sweat starts flowing the cooling effect of evaporation also cools the blood returning it to the heart and lungs. It also acts as out first line of defense against many nasty stuff that without protection wed be dead in a few days. Burned skin allows fluids to come out of the skin that is damaged that is why burns weep. These fluids are vital for our survival and if we loose too much we simply die.
